Djibril Cisse

Liverpool footballer Djibril Cisse broke his right tibia after being tackled by the Shandong Luneng defender during an international football match in France, after his right leg twisted underneath him this gruesome picture was taken. The incident happened 7 June 2006, t was a vicious blow nobody was expecting. This injury was out of the ordinary tackle, some tackles do end up in gory accidents like these. When a tackle is about to be performed the timing could be wrong and whilst a defender tries to tackle the ball, the opposing team would get in the way of the ball therefore resulting in both players clashing together.

On May 24, 1992 in his third long jump                        at the New York games. Starks broke a bone in his right leg upon take off and by the time he had slumped to his stomach in the landing pit, he had already suffered from a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula. Losing any chance to win the summer Olympics. Injuries like these caused by the high impact landing occur during long jump, when landing from a large height and speed (such as Starks or any other long jump performer could do) the pressure of it could causes bones to come out of place, broken bones etc..

 Shaun Livingston

In a game against the Charlotte    Bobcats on February 26, 2007, Livingston suffered a debilitating knee injury, dislocating his left kneecap after landing awkwardly following a missed Layup, resulting in the left leg snapping laterally. Livingston injured almost every part of his knee, tearing both the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments and the lateral meniscus, as well as badly spraining his medial collateral ligament, dislocating his patella and his tibia femoral joint. This could be a common injury as the court has a hard surface, which with any high impact stomping landing could result in an incident like this.

Clint Malarchuk

During a game on March 22, 1989, between the visiting St. Louis Blues and Malarchuk's Buffalo Sabres, two of the teams players became entangled whilst chasing the puck and crashed into Malarchuk's goal.Malarchuk's carotid artery, One of the largest blood vessels in the human body, was slashed by the skate of Blues player Steve Tuttle. Blood began pooling on the ice quickly, and the scene was so disturbing that nine fans fainted, two others had heart attacks. Meanwhile Malarchuk was literally dying in front of thousands of spectators. However Jim Pizzutelli, who reached into Malarchuk's neck and pinched the artery until doctors came to suture the wound.Injuries like this are not common in ice hockey but still may occur to the unfortunate people like Malarchuk, however this injury is caused by another tackle gone wrong. The timing may be off and other players skates could be in the air or a danger to those around, possibly resulting in an injury like Malarchuks.
